More a re-brand.
We have decided to write our name, K L P S from this moment forward.
It's still pronounced (KOLLAPS\E).
But to separate us from the awesome danish band, Kollaps we thought this would
be the right way to go.
It's not a name change...

K L P S has improved upon their debut on nearly every axis. While Phantom Centre was already a breath of fresh air in a moldy genre, K L P S steps up its riffs, its ambience, and its emotional weight. Displaying an uncanny level of maturity, K L P S’ sophomore release shines by blending these elements into a heady brand of sludge where the riffs have soul and the atmosphere has grit. While I wish K L P S had more ebb and flow as an album, its masterful songs keep me coming back for more. Even skeptics of sludge and post-metal owe this hidden gem a listen.
K L P S created an atmosphere that couldn't be more heavy. While the six songs keep unfolding and building into each other, you feel like you become part of some kind of ritual—hypnotised and spellbound, always curious about what awaits you behind the next corner of this ghostly and also heavy story.
You see, while you can obviously take the continued heaviness of the band pretty much for granted (if anything tracks like raging opener “SUBVERSE” and the pounding “KATARSIS” prove that K L P S have packed on some significant sonic mass since Phantom Centre, to the point where the imposing auditory weight of the guitars sometimes recalls the doom-laden density of LLNN) it’s the way they’ve expanded their creative palette (especially when it comes to their use of both mood and melody), while also further focussing and refining their songwriting skills, which marks their self-titled album out as such a major step up from its predecessor.
As with all the finest of the genre, you will discover new elements with every spin, hidden musical gems that broaden the experience. Creating such music demands deep knowledge of the genre´s demands and expectations - and adding a hefty dose of passion, thus engaging the listeners on a deeper level. It’s not an exaggeration to say that K L P S has managed this on an extraordinarily high level.
Bossman Shaman Lee joked about my decision to take on Phantom Centre given my well-publicized distaste of post-metal. He’s right, my feelings about the genre have always been that I tend to find it overlong, pompous and unengaging for the most part. However, KOLLAPS\E thankfully are a different kettle of fish, with tracks of a reasonable length and enough diversity to satisfy even the most cynical and jaded of music journalists such as myself.
I'm glad to say that Kollaps\e have only progressed as a band to my hearing and present a forward-thinking approach to a sound that should be familiar to fans of heavy music typically labeled as "post-metal." While I grew tired of that particular genre moniker a long time ago, I don't mind using it rather than giving you all a list of bands to compare Kollaps\e with, especially because these comparisons are often pointless.
Phantom Centre is that moment when you see yourself biting your nails in the mirror’s reflection and realise that you’re alone and without human company. Why are you so self-conscious and prone to overthinking everything? It’s good to know that KOLLAPS\E suffer from the same doubts in private. The way they finish in maximum overdrive with all instruments boiling at the end of closing track, ‘Murrain’, will remind you of your instinct for survival. You might dread tomorrow or next year, but your protective mechanisms and habits will kick in at your lowest ebb. All you can do is unleash the frustration when nobody can see you.
Crushing or spacious or both when it wants to be, Phantom Centre is a strong, pandemic-born debut that looks forward while showing both that it’s schooled in its own genre and has begun to decide which rules it wants to break.
